After the release of their very popular Debunking Handbook – a guide to debunking misinformation – in 2011, Stephan Lewandowsky and John Cook have come up with a brand new updated version. The authors reached out to other researchers and 20 of them signed up as co-authors of this guide dedicated to educate people on how to counter misinformation.

The guide contains informations that are crucial to our society today, such as how misinformation damages society, what’s the illusory truth effect, how to correct someone spreading misinformation, how to debunk it on social media, and many more. It was translated into 8 other languages and is available to download for free, so that it can reach a large number of people.

Here’s an excerpt : “You cannot correct someone else’s myth without talking about it. In that sense, any correction—even if successful—can have unintended consequences, and choosing one’s own frame may be more beneficial. For example, highlighting the enormous success and safety of a vaccine might create a more positive set of talking points than debunking a vaccine-related myth.”

You can find the Debunking Handbook 2020 here and download it in the language of your choice.
